CASE STUDY #1

Direct to Consumer (DTC Co.)
-
Funding Round - $2M Seed Round

THE CUSTOMER

DTC Co. provides their own label of products to consumers via their website. Their biggest expenses are headcount, cost of goods sold, and advertising.

THE CHALLENGE

DTC Co. had been using a bookkeeping firm that had kept their books on a cash basis. The company needed clearer numbers and best practices as they “grew up”.

THE SOLUTION

Dashboard created a chart of accounts that told the story of their business, converted the financials to accrual basis, and created an operating model that tracked cash burn and KPIs such as CAC & LTV.

THE BENEFITS

An expanded chart of accounts along with a switch to accrual accounting allowed better tracking of gross margins, which ultimately led to cost savings from their manufacturer and logistics providers. Clear KPIs, gross margins, and a strong operating model were key parts of the Company’s Series A fundraise.

CASE STUDY #2

Enterprise SaaS (SaaS Co.)
-
Funding Round - $12M Series A

THE CUSTOMER

After a successful Series A round, SaaS Co. was ready to build a finance department that could keep up with their growth.

THE CHALLENGE

The finance department consisted of a bookkeeper and the COO. The Company needed to build a finance department that would free up the COO to focus on growth and match the expectations of investors.

THE SOLUTION

Dashboard helped SaaS Co. hire a Finance Director and a Staff Accountant to manage the day to day finances. Working with Dashboard, the new team created a new operating model, standardized monthly reporting & board packages, hired an auditor, installed Carta & Netsuite, obtained $3M in venture debt, and increased cash flow by creating an Accounts Receivable Policy.

THE BENEFITS

SaaS Co. was able to remove its reliance on external finance consultants and allow its finance department to stand on its own two feet. Dashboard continues to consult with SaaS Co. on one off topics like best practices, fundraising, and optimal finance department structure.

CASE STUDY #3

FinTech (FinTech Co.)
-
Funding Round - $30M Series B

THE CUSTOMER

FinTech Co. had success in pretty much everything they did, including hiring a strong finance team.

THE CHALLENGE

Right before the December Holidays, their controller and accounting manager gave two weeks’ notice.   People were getting ready for vacation and the Company’s financial operations were about to be majorly disrupted.

THE SOLUTION

Within a short amount of time, Dashboard came in and created written and video documentation showing the tasks and systems used by the exiting employees. Dashboard identified the “must haves” to keep financial operations going and keep reporting at a high standard. A Dashboard Controller plugged in for six weeks until replacement hires were made.

THE BENEFITS

While plugging in at SaaS Co., the Dashboard Controller identified multiple ways the Company could automate their close and improve reporting. Dashboard’s Controller trained the new hires on the improved systems and procedural documentation.
